Financial Support
Financial Support at SWB6th
Inspiring Growth, Shaping Futures
We believe finances should never be a barrier to education. At SWB6th, we offer bursaries and financial support to help with the costs of sixth form, so that every student can access the resources they need to succeed.
The 16–19 Bursary Fund
The bursary is government funding available to help students with essential costs like:
- Travel to and from sixth form
- Uniform and clothing for sixth form
- Equipment, books, and study resources
- Lunches and meals during the school day
- Trips and university visits linked to your courses
Types of Bursary
Vulnerable Bursary
This is a guaranteed bursary of up to £1,200 per year if you meet one of the following criteria:
- You are in care or a care leaver
- You receive Income Support or Universal Credit in your own name
- You receive Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) / Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Discretionary Bursary
This is available to students whose families are on a low income or who receive certain benefits. The amount you receive will depend on your individual circumstances and the funding available.
We prioritise support for things that directly help you succeed in your studies — such as transport, resources, or equipment.
Stages of Support
Financial support is offered in stages, depending on need:
- Vulnerable bursary – guaranteed for those who meet the criteria above.
- Tiered discretionary bursaries – based on household income and individual circumstances.
- One-off or emergency support – for students who face unexpected financial barriers during the year.
This means we can respond flexibly — making sure the students who need support the most get it.
How to Apply
- Application forms are available from the Sixth Form Office or can be downloaded from the website.
- You’ll need to provide evidence of eligibility (such as benefit statements or proof of income).
- All applications are handled confidentially.
If you’re not sure whether you qualify, we encourage you to apply anyway — we’ll talk it through with you and make sure you get the right support.
Our Commitment
We want every student to feel secure and supported, regardless of their financial background. If money is ever a concern, please speak to a member of the Sixth Form Team — we’ll do everything we can to make sure finances don’t stand in the way of your future.
