Numeracy

Numeracy at Ormiston SWB Academy

At Ormiston SWB Academy, we believe that numeracy is a vital life skill — one that empowers students to navigate the world with confidence and competence. Our mission is to ensure that every student develops the ability to use numeracy effectively across the curriculum and in real-life contexts, preparing them for further education, employment, and adult life.

Numeracy at OSWBA goes beyond basic arithmetic. It involves understanding the number system, applying a range of mathematical techniques, solving quantitative and spatial problems, and interpreting data in meaningful ways. We are committed to:

  • Raising standards of numeracy across all subjects through high-quality teaching and consistent approaches.
  • Embedding numeracy consciously into curriculum planning and sequencing, helping students make connections between mathematical skills and their applications.
  • Providing targeted intervention to support students who need additional help, ensuring they can catch up quickly and confidently.
  • Equipping staff with the tools and training needed to deliver numeracy effectively and consistently across the academy.

Our goal is to develop numerate learners who are confident, capable, and able to apply their skills in a variety of contexts — both in school and beyond.
