Expectations

Behaviour, Attendance & Conduct

Inspiring Growth, Shaping Futures

At SWB6th, we are proud of being an inclusive community. That means we welcome everyone, celebrate difference, and hold ourselves to high standards so that every student can feel safe, respected, and able to succeed.

Our behaviour and attendance expectations are about preparing you for adulthood — but they’re also about creating a sixth form where everyone can belong.

Attendance & Punctuality

  • Every student matters — and every lesson matters. We expect at least 96% attendance so you stay on track and benefit from everything sixth form offers.
  • PT time at 8:40am is part of our community culture — starting the day together, feeling connected, and ready to learn.
  • If you’re struggling with attendance or punctuality, we won’t just sanction you, we will work with you, your tutor, and your family to put support in place.

Behaviour & Conduct

  • Respect is non-negotiable. We expect every student to treat others with kindness, fairness, and acceptance.
  • Discrimination, bullying, or exclusion of others is never tolerated, we champion diversity and make sure all voices are heard.
  • Low-level disruption (off-task behaviour, misusing phones) damages everyone’s learning. We’ll challenge it, but we’ll also help you rebuild better study habits.
  • You represent SWB6th in the academy and in the community — your conduct reflects not only on you, but on all of us.

Phones & Devices

  • Phones can be brilliant tools for learning and connection — but they must be used respectfully and responsibly.
  • In lessons, phones should only be out when authorised by your teacher.
  • In the Sixth Form Centre, phones may be used in social or study spaces, but never in a way that excludes or distracts others.

Independent Learning & Focus Time

  • You will complete 5 hours of independent learning each week, building the independence you’ll need for life after sixth form.
  • Focus Time (2 hours per week) is silent, structured study in the Sixth Form Centre. A calm, inclusive environment where everyone can focus.
  • We provide a range of study spaces (quiet rooms, booths, round tables) so that however you learn best, there’s a space for you.

Support, Not Just Sanctions

Inclusivity means recognising that everyone faces challenges. If you’re finding it hard to meet expectations, we’ll support you with:

  • Daily check-ins with your Personal Tutor
  • The Pastoral Head of Sixth Form, based full-time in the centre
  • Safe spaces like our Tea & Cake Mornings for anyone struggling
  • Success at Sixth after-school sessions for one-to-one guidance

We set high standards because they help every student succeed. And when challenges arise, we will be here with the support you need to meet them.
