Dress Code
Dress Code at SWB6th
Inspiring Growth, Shaping Futures
At SWB6th, we want our students to feel confident, professional, and ready for the future. That’s why we have a clear dress code: it sets high standards while still giving you the flexibility to express yourself appropriately.
The rule of thumb? Dress as if you were going to a formal interview.
Uniform (Years 12 and 13)
- A business suit (skirt, dress, or trousers) with a smart jacket, blazer, jumper, or cardigan
- A formal shirt with tie, or blouse/smart top of appropriate length
- Skirts/dresses should be knee length; trousers full length
- Smart formal shoes or boots that can be polished (no trainers, plimsolls, or “Ugg” style boots)
- Students in Practical Sport lessons or the Sports Leaders Programme should wear the official SWB Sports kit (no other branded sportswear allowed) or full business dress
Jewellery, Hair & Personal Presentation
- Piercings: One stud per ear and one small nose piercing are permitted. Other facial piercings must be discreet.
- Hair: Colouring is allowed, as long as it is not extreme (no neon).
- Tattoos: Must not be visible.
- Jewellery: Should be discreet and professional. Use common sense and good judgement.
- Hats and baseball caps: Not to be worn inside the academy.
- Outside coats/jackets: Must be removed when inside the building.
- Lanyards: To be worn at all times in the academy buildings.
Why We Have a Dress Code
We believe high standards of dress prepare you for life beyond sixth form. Dressing professionally:
- Builds confidence and independence
- Helps you feel ready for interviews, work experience, and university visits
- Creates a respectful and aspirational atmosphere in our sixth form
At the same time, our approach is inclusive: allowing jumpers or cardigans as alternatives to blazers, and giving flexibility with piercings and hair colour (within professional limits).
If there’s an issue
Students who do not meet the dress code may be asked to adjust their clothing, work separately until the issue is resolved, or be sent home to change. This isn’t about “catching you out” it’s about helping you meet the high standards we know you’re capable of.
