Music
Music at Ormiston SWB Academy
At Ormiston SWB Academy, our Music curriculum is underpinned by our commitment to great teaching, strong literacy, excellent outcomes, and positive behaviour, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to develop as confident and creative musicians.
Our carefully sequenced curriculum across five years is supported by detailed Schemes of Learning that offer both challenge and personalisation for every child. We aim to nurture musical talent, build cultural awareness, and foster a lifelong appreciation of music.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9)
All students receive a weekly music lesson that follows the Model Music Curriculum published by the DfE in March 2021. The curriculum develops both theoretical and practical musical
knowledge, with opportunities to sing, play instruments, compose, and perform in solo, paired, and group settings. Students explore a wide range of musical styles and traditions, building confidence and creativity.
Key Stage 4 (BTEC Music Practice)
Students who opt to study Music at KS4 follow the BTEC Award in Music Practice, which builds on the skills and knowledge gained at KS3. The course allows students to specialise in areas such as performance, composition, and music production, while developing their understanding of the music industry and professional practice.
Peripatetic Tuition and Enrichment
We offer personalised 1-to-1 tuition in a range of instruments including woodwind, drums, guitar, piano, and vocals. These lessons are available to all students across the academy and complement the KS4 curriculum. Students also have access to enrichment opportunities such as performances, workshops, and extracurricular clubs.
We are proud to offer a full and inclusive music curriculum that supports every student in becoming a confident, expressive and skilled musician.
