A Tribute to Lexi and Caitlin

From Mrs Sira

As the 5 years with the Wolverhampton U15 Girls District side has come to an end this season. Both Lexi Ruby and Caitlin Gregg have had huge impacts and been outstanding in terms of effort, dedication and been an absolute pleasure to coach over these years. (Despite winding me up in training and targeting me!)

I would love for them to be recognised in the school for their contribution as I don’t feel they understand the impact they had for girls’ football in Wolverhampton and the younger groups looking up to them.

There will be an article out soon based on the whole squad, but I wanted to send their individual part in the hopes they can be either shown it or rewarded and celebrated for what they have done for district football and being history makers. They both were part of the first ever girls side to go on a district abroad tour to France in 2024. With Caitlin also playing in the National Final in 2023.

Caitlin Gregg (U12s to U15s)

From the very beginning, Caitlin has never shy away from a challenge against top players, outstanding teams and big moments. A consistent player at training and very rarely missing a week over the years, her attitude and above all effort, has been nothing short of impeccable. Caitlin has grown as a player using her strengths to prove to herself and everyone that she is a capable player at district level. Caitlin’s attitude and efforts were rewarded when winning multiple player of the matches over the years for some tough defensive, physical battles including in France. During a high pressure moment of the National Final going to penalties in 2023, Caitlin was brave enough to step up and take one, showing her courage in big moments. Cailtin has been a stalwart in the squad and has been a complete credit to herself, family and Wolverhampton.

Highlight: Caitlin’s confidence has grown over the 4 years and playing district level has contributed to her growth in skillset and mentality. Caitlin won two player of the match awards, one against Notts County and the other for a tough player to player battle and a clean sheet in France.

Lexi Ruby (U13s to U15s)

An unforgettable debut hat-trick for Lexi against Knowsley St Helens started her off prolifically in a positive first season at district level, showing she is more than capable to mix it at this level. Lexi fired in a total of 7 goals during her first season, showing her range of fantastic finishing ability with right foot, left foot and has scored numerous headers over the years. With a total of 11 goals, Lexi finishes as the joint third highest goalscorer despite joining a season later, which is a great achievement. Lexi showed plenty of courage and effort at all times even if she found a game difficult or getting very little chances for goals or assists, would always find one from somewhere. Lexi also starred in France scoring the goal to clinch perfect qualification in the group with a 1-0 victory and player of the match. Lexi also stars for Walsall FC Girls.

Highlight: In a game that meant a lot for personal reasons for family in France, scoring the goal to win 1-0 and win player of the match. Another proud moment was the debut hat-trick.
