Year 8 student Layla Perry was the first ever recipient of the Wolverhampton City Fairtrade Young Campaigner of the Year award at the Fairtrade AGM and celebration in Wolverhampton.
Layla Perry, who is a Year 8 student at the academy, which is part of Ormiston Academies Trust, was recognised for her exceptional dedication to promoting and raising awareness of Fairtrade within the school community and beyond.
The award was presented at the 20th annual Fairtrade AGM by Julia Farrell, Chair of the Wolverhampton City Fairtrade Partnership, who praised Layla for her humanitarian spirit and tireless advocacy.
Julia commented: “It was a delight to present this award to Layla of Ormiston SWB Academy. She has shown what a true humanitarian she is and an amazing advocate for spreading the message of Fairtrade amongst her peers.”
The Wolverhampton City Fairtrade Young Campaigner of the Year award celebrates the contributions of young people to the promotion of Fairtrade, recognising their role in building a fairer and more sustainable future. Layla’s recognition highlights the growing impact of young activists in raising awareness about ethical consumerism and the Fairtrade movement.
Her efforts have included helping make Fairtrade jewellery with people with special needs, as well as leading craft workshops for children without parents. Her compassionate involvement in these activities has left a lasting impression on her peers and the wider community, exemplifying the true spirit of Fairtrade advocacy.
