Student Support
Student Support at SWB6th
Inspiring Growth, Shaping Futures
At SWB6th, we believe every student should feel supported, valued, and included. Sixth form can be exciting, but it can also bring challenges, which is why we have built a strong support network around you. Whatever your background, ambitions, or personal journey, there is always someone here to help.
Pastoral Care
You will have access to a full-time Pastoral Head of Sixth Form, based in the centre every day. Their role is to check in with you, help resolve any issues, and make sure you always feel supported. From attendance and wellbeing to behaviour and guidance, our pastoral care is about helping you stay on track and thrive.
Personal Tutors
Every student at SWB6th is allocated a Personal Tutor. You’ll see them daily in PT sessions (8:40–9:00am). Your tutor is your first point of contact for:
- Checking attendance and punctuality
- Monitoring academic progress
- Supporting your wellbeing
- Offering advice and guidance
- Celebrating your successes
They will get to know you as an individual, which means you’ll always have someone looking out for you and helping you prepare for your next steps.
Mental Health & Wellbeing
We know how important mental health is to success and happiness in sixth form. That’s why we provide:
- Access to counselling and wellbeing support through the academy
- A dedicated Careers Adviser to help you feel confident about your future
- Success at Sixth sessions (Wednesday & Thursday after school) for one-to-one academic or pastoral support
- Student-led roles like our Wellbeing Ambassador and Inclusivity Champion, ensuring peer support is always part of our culture
- Tea & Cake Mornings – once a week we run a relaxed drop-in for any student who’s struggling, where you can chat, catch up, and share concerns over a cuppa and a slice of cake.
We encourage open conversations about mental health and provide safe, confidential routes to access support whenever you need it.
A Team Around You
Support at SWB6th comes from both staff and students. You’ve already met the team — including Miss Dutton, Miss Robbins, Mr Williams, Miss Shuttleworth, and Mr Wall — on our Meet the Team page, along with our Senior Student Leaders. Each one of them plays a role in making sure you never feel alone.
Inclusivity at the Core
Inclusivity isn’t just something we talk about, it’s who we are. At SWB6th, every student is part of the community. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, whatever your ambitions:
You are encouraged to be yourself.
You are supported.
You are respected.
