Enrichment at SWB6th
Inspiring Growth, Shaping Futures
At SWB6th, sixth form life is about more than just your subjects. Our enrichment programme helps you grow as a person, develop skills beyond the classroom, and stand out when applying for university, apprenticeships, or work.
Current Opportunities
Our enrichment programme is broad, varied, and designed so every student can find something that interests them:
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – build resilience, independence, and teamwork while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.
- Volunteering & Mentoring – from our Reading Programme with younger students, to supporting in lessons as a Teaching Assistant, or taking on whole-school duties that develop responsibility.
- Success at Sixth – every Wednesday and Thursday after school, offering one-to-one support in the Sixth Form Centre. Whether you need subject help, organisation tips, or just someone to guide you, this is your time to get personalised support.
- Whole School Ambassadors – many of our sixth formers play a vital role in the wider academy, representing SWB6th and supporting events, open evenings, and younger pupils.
- Trips & Visits – including regular university visits, workplace visits, and cultural or subject-based trips.
- Pathway Workshops – specialist sessions for competitive routes such as Medicine, Law, STEM, and the Creative Arts.
- Core Maths Support – for students who want to strengthen their numeracy skills alongside their main programme of study.
- Fitness & Wellbeing – access to our fitness suite, sports facilities, and opportunities to train in sports leadership or take part in health and fitness clubs.
- Student Leadership Roles – from promoting wellbeing and inclusivity to driving events and rewards, our Sixth Form Senior Leadership Team and deputies play a key role in shaping sixth form life.
Looking Ahead — 2026 and Beyond
We’re committed to expanding enrichment every year. From 2026, we’re aiming to introduce:
- Open University Level 1 Courses – giving you the chance to earn university credits while still in sixth form.
- Young Enterprise & Entrepreneurship – set up and run your own business with a team, developing real-world business skills.
- Languages & Sign Language – opportunities to develop new communication skills, including British Sign Language.
- Work Placements & Internships – stronger links with local employers to give you practical experience and professional networks.
- Gym Instructor / Fitness Instructor Award – a vocational qualification, delivered with external providers, that can qualify you to work in gyms and fitness settings.
- First Aid Qualification – a nationally recognised award, practical for life and valuable for careers in healthcare, education, and sport.
Why Enrichment Matters
Enrichment is about balance. It helps you to:
- Build independence, confidence, and leadership skills
- Gain experiences and qualifications valued by universities and employers
- Contribute to the academy and wider community
- Discover new passions beyond your subjects
At SWB6th, enrichment isn’t an “extra” it’s a core part of how we help you grow, succeed, and shape your future.
