Knowledge Organisers

Knowledge Organisers at Ormiston SWB Academy

Our Knowledge Organisers are available for all students to support their home learning and independent study. These resources provide structured access to key content from the taught curriculum and include essential knowledge, subject-specific vocabulary, and retrieval strategies.

Our Knowledge Organisers form a comprehensive package of support — whether students are revising for an upcoming assessment, filling gaps in understanding, or preparing for future learning. Students are given the opportunity to practice using their knowledge organisers half termly as a personal tutor group; these sessions are delivered by English, Maths & Science subject specialists. We’ve also created these walk-through videos to support you in using your knowledge organisers – for more support speak to your subject teachers.

To make the best use of the Knowledge Organisers, students simply select their year group, open the folder for the relevant subject, and access the organiser. Each organiser includes a list of essential topics, recall prompts, and recommended wider reading. Students are encouraged to use these resources to:

  • Review and recall key knowledge regularly.
  • Create flashcards using the Leitner system to support long-term memory.
  • Engage with subject-specific wider reading to deepen understanding.
  • Apply knowledge to new and complex contexts.

These resources are designed to be used both at home and in school and are integrated into lesson planning to ensure continuity and progression. For access, students and families can visit our Glass Charts portal, where all home learning materials are shared.
