The Department of Education announced funding to support students whose learning was disrupted as a result of the COVID pandemic. This 16 to 19 Tuition Fund is available to all 16 to 19 providers and is ring fenced for these purposes only.

In line with government guidance (full guidance can be found here) this statement sets out how Ormiston SWB Academy will utilise these funds during academic year 2021/2022. This additional funding is for this academic year only and must be used within this time frame. The ESFA will be notified of any underspend from the fund in order for it to be reclaimed.

We will be prioritising the following groups as identified by the government:

  • Students with a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths, are from an economically disadvantaged background and would need catch-up support. These are defined as students from the 27% most economically deprived areas of the country based on the index of multiple deprivation
  • Students who have achieved a grade 4 in English and/or Maths but would benefit from additional support
  • Students who have achieved a grade 5 in English and/or Maths but would benefit from additional support

We are also cognisant of our students who have SEND requirements (in particular those with EHCPs) particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning as a result of their specific needs and disabilities.

Eligible identified students will be able to benefit from the below support either via small group sessions or one-to one:

  • Academic Mentoring to put together a personalised programme of study in line with student’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Targeted Maths and/or English support to fill in gaps in knowledge and support students with any retakes
  • Additional support from subject specialists to consolidate curriculum

Attendance and engagement to these sessions will be recorded via a bespoke online system. We will track the usage of the fund and evaluate the impact of the support offered. We will closely monitor attendance, engagement and impact to determine the effectiveness of the support in relation to student progress and modify as required.
