As we come to the end of a very difficult and strange academic year, I want to thank you for your support during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a challenging year for all of us and your support has been very much appreciated. Please find details of our September opening for students below;

25.06.20 UPDATE – ONLINE LESSON INFORMATION
From Monday 29th June 2020 the Academy will be hosting live online lessons for students in all Year groups. Please see link below for Year/lesson schedule. Students will receive a Microsoft Teams invite, so please keep checking! Year 10 students will also be invited in for their lesson slots, following their successful One to One meetings last week. Year 12 One to One meetings will continue until the end of the academic year.

SWB will be making contact with all Year 10 &12 SWB students over the course of next week to arrange 1-2-1 appointments.
These appointments will start on June 15th. Students will be asked to attend for 30 minutes at SWB per fortnight initially. Year 10 will increase to 2 hours per week from June 29th.

Further to my letter of last week, I wanted to write to you following the Government’s plan to gradually ease the lockdown restrictions, including school re-openings, and further clarify the academy’s position. I hope the information below, relating to all schools across England, is helpful and reassuring.
From Monday 1st June, the Government has said we should prepare to begin some face-to-face contact with Year 10 & Year 12 students who have key exams next year, in support of their continued remote, home learning. We are planning for this to happen at SWB following a robust set of health and safety conditions which I will outline in this letter. As always, the safety and wellbeing of students and staff is absolutely paramount and, if we cannot be sure an opening is safe, we will not open. However, at this stage, I do feel that we can successfully adhere to the Government’s rules regarding social distancing and infection control.
We are in the process of producing a comprehensive list of risk assessments to ensure every aspect of the opening has be thoroughly considered and risk assessed. Due to the tight timescales involved in the decision making and planning process, the ever-changing picture of guidance from Government and the importance of getting it right we will be taking the reopening process slowly and steadily as this is something, we cannot afford to get wrong. Students, parents and staff need to be completely reassured that our school is the safe place we know it to be – otherwise the reopening will not be successful. Therefore, following a week of staff training, the school will open on a part-time basis for our Year 10 & 12 students from Monday 8th June.
14.05.20 UPDATE
Following further Government guidance: From now until 1st June, Ormiston SWB will continue to operate as we currently do, i.e. provision is closed to all except children classed as vulnerable or children of key workers. If your child is not in these limited categories, please continue to make best use of the online learning that is available so that they keep up with their education as much as possible. (Any issues you may have logging in to Class Charts or work set please let us know). My personal email is rhughes@oswba.co.uk
From Monday 1st June, the Government has said there may be a phased return of schools and colleges. This will start with a limited number of year groups in primary schools (Reception, Year 1 and Year 6), with class sizes limited to no more than 15. The Government hopes that all primary school children will return to school before the summer holidays for a month, if feasible. In terms of secondary schools like Ormiston SWB, the Government has said that we should prepare to begin some face-to-face contact with Year 10 and 12 pupils who have key exams next year, in support of their continued remote, home learning. However, no date has been set for this yet, and so I will be writing to you again when more information is available. As it stands, there is no Government discussion about Year 7, 8 or 9 students attending school.

As you may have seen, details were published today of how grades will be awarded to students taking GCSEs, AS levels and A levels. Details for how vocational and technical qualifications will be awarded this summer will follow.

2.04.20 UPDATE
Students who are currently eligible for Free School Meals will receive an e-mail from the Department for Education on Monday 20 April with details on how to redeem their voucher. Please check e-mail addresses for both parents/carers and junk mail for these.

As you know, we are all facing extraordinary challenges at this time and the situation is placing pressure on all parts of society.
On Tuesday 23.03.20, the Government announced further measures to tackle coronavirus.
Schools and other settings remain closed until further notice – except for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers.
Only send your children to school if you absolutely need to and have no other alternative. Otherwise be responsible and stay at home to save lives.
