SWB students raise over £500 for Acorns Children’s Hospice!

Ormiston SWB Academy students raise over £500 for Acorns Children’s Hospice charity

Students and staff at Ormiston SWB Academy are giving back to their community through fundraising to help Acorns Children’s Hospice Charity continue its important work across the West Midlands.

The committed students were inspired to support the hospice charity after a Year 10 student, Charlie Giles, volunteered there and wanted to the important role it holds for young people in need of care.

The academy, part of Ormiston Academies Trust, set up a programme of fundraising events including an own-clothes day and a delicious bake sale, where academy and Acorn staff came together to donate sweet treats for the important cause.

As a result, students raised over £500 to be donated to the hospice, helping to support its network of specialist palliative nursing care and support for children and their families across the West Midlands. In an emotional and pride-filled moment, Emma Rolinson, Area fundraiser for the Acorns Children’s Hospice charity, joined Charlie to accept a cheque which demonstrated the students’ dedication and hard work.

Speaking on the experience, Charlie said: “It’s been really great to show just what Acorns does as a charity and how our fundraising will be supporting local young people like us.”

The fundraising forms part of the academy’s commitment to giving back to its local community and the student ambassadors are already working on the next schedule of charity initiatives for the year. This includes a foodbank collection for ‘Challenge Poverty Week’ and support for the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Child Shoebox appeal, helping students across the globe.

Dan Mason, Principal at Ormiston SWB Academy, said:

“At Ormiston SWB Academy, we know the important role we play in our community, and we are committed to creating opportunities for and encouraging our students to get more involved through fundraising, volunteering, and charity initiatives. It has been amazing to see how our students have poured hard work and dedication into this, to be able to raise such a great sum of money for a really important cause.

“We’re really proud of everyone who has gotten involved and the impact it will have for our wider community, and we look forward to many more opportunities in the future.”
