OAT Admissions Update Letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

Following the recent government approval of a new school admissions code, we have altered our admissions policies for 21-22 and 22-23 to reflect the changes to the code. As this change is a legal requirement, in line with section 3.6 of the code, we have amended our policy without consultation and we are now notifying stakeholders of the change.

Our policy has been updated to reflect the widened definition of Looked After Children and now reads:

A Looked After Child is either a child who is in the care of a local authority, or being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (definition used is in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989); or, those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.

Previously Looked After Children are those who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after were adopted or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order.
This wording will be included in our future policies. A copy of the academy admissions policies can be found on our website here:

If you have any questions regarding this change, or should you require a paper copy of the policy, please request one by contacting: the Academy on 01902 493797 or e-mail [email protected]
